An ominous meeting…
“You are certain we can disrupt this ceremony?” Emiliano Pesch did not trust Keeper Malfe, but he knew the man Malfe had hired by reputation. “You can do it without killing all of them? I do not want the death of the Poh on my soul. I do not care if he is injured and we have to choose a new one, but his death would be more of a sin than even I want to answer for to the Three in One.”
“The weapons are powerful and accurate,” the bandit said. “I will have my archers in place long before the ceremony begins.”
The man called El Canalla had slipped into the back of the house after dark. The Overlord had banned him from Ciudad Centro and threatened him with imprisonment if he did not stop raiding the remote haciendas.
“I do not take credits,” Canalla said. “You will pay in goods from your hacienda. You understand this?”
“You understand what I want? Three people must die. Three must be incapable of continuing as rulers.” Emiliano was not sure this man understood this was not to be a bloodbath but a targeted assassination. He had given him the names of the targets, but he was suddenly unsure the men that Canalla led would be able to identify them.
“I will do what you ask, but the weapons are powerful and the distance we shoot is long. What happens, happens. Just be sure your people at the hacienda know to have our supplies ready. If the full amount is not delivered, you will suffer.”
Emiliano gasped. “You threaten me?” His face began to redden as he gripped the edge of the desk.
“I will do what you ask because I want revenge on Francos Morales, not because you ask it. The supplies are to insure I do not go to the Overlord with word of what you have planned.” The man turned and paused as he left the room. “I can bring you and that fool Malfe with me to the dungeon if I wish. Do not cross me, old man.”
